Comparison Between 2D and 3D Modeling of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor Using FEM Simulations

The paper compares two different ways (two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D)) of modeling of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) using the finite element method (FEM). It focuses mainly on differences between waveforms of the motor currents and elecromagnetic torque given from both types of the model using Ansys Maxwell software. Finally, at the end of the paper the magnetic flux density is investigated using the finite element model.
