Determination of damage parameters without numerical simulation using various shock experiments. The lead example
2009
The determination of parameters for classical models of dynamic damage, such as Tuler- Butcher or Johnson, needs usually various iterations of numerical simulations. Even when a set of parameters is determined with a particular experiment, one can not assure that it will allow fitting other experiments with different types of solicitation. A number of shock experiments have been led on a Lead-Calcium alloy to study its dynamical damage behavior. Various types of solicitation have been achieved (plate impact, laser driven shock and explosive). A continuous evolution of spall threshold as a function of release rate has been observed and is used to determine a set of para- meters for damage model without numerical simulations. Some experimental results and a quick review of the method used are presented in this article.
