The key aspects and special features in the development of gels for oral administration and the main groups of excipients that can be used in the oral gel formulations are considered. Results of the patent search and analysis of scientific publications on these issues are presents. Experimental approach to correction of the gel taste, rheological characteristics, aggregate stability, and release of active substances from dosage forms are important for pharmaceutical development. The principles of creating oral gels with prolonged drug release are described. The possible types of packaging and dosage methods that ensure the convenience of administration and, accordingly, effectiveness of treatment are described.
