A Fault Location Method by Multi-point Monitoring for Distribution Network Based on HHT Transformation and Traveling Wave Theory

With the continuous promotion of upgrading projects of urban and rural distribution network, the scale of distribution network construction is expanding, and the distribution line fault location technology is also developing rapidly. In this paper, a new method of distribution line fault location based on multi-point monitoring is proposed to solve the distribution line fault ranging problem. This paper uses HHT transformation to obtain the instantaneous frequency-time diagram of traveling wave, screens the initial traveling wave moment value monitored by multi-point monitoring device, and performs ranging verification. The actual network was simulated by MATLAB/Simulink. The simulation results show that the fault distance calculated by the time of the traveling wave arriving at the monitoring point is very close to the actual distance, which achieves the purpose of accurately locating the fault in the distribution network.
