Conservering en in situ-behoud van laatmiddeleeuwse huisplaatsen in De Ommelanden : resultaten en analyse monitoring 2017-2021

2021
In monitoring phase 2, the required preservation conditions for the archaeological traces that occur are described for 10 sites of late medieval habitation. Continuous measurements of redox potential, groundwater level, soil moisture content, soil temperature and regular measurements of pH, organic matter, ground level and groundwater quality and recordings of the vegetation have been used to gain a picture of the gradually changing conditions. The findings indicate that the conditions in the Onlanden with regard to redox potential have improved considerably, but are not stable and that aerobic conditions, especially during the summer, still pose a real threat to the sites. Covering helps to improve this. Mowing can help prevent reed spreading.
