In natural conditions during the winter period, for the sections of the channel rotation, a narrowing of the flow is characteristic due to the partial freezing of the channel, the formation of a sludge or a jam. As a result, the flow rates increase, and the flow itself becomes turbulent. Laboratory experiments conducted in a circular installation of the PFUR hydraulic laboratory imitating such a site showed that in case of an increase in flow rates included in the rounding, or an increase in the Reynolds number, vortex movements and counterflows at the inner slope inevitably occur in the flow washout channel.
