Laparoscopic Left Colectomy

2021
Left colectomy is the main treatment of left colon cancer and benign diseases affecting the left colon such as recurrent diverticulitis, volvulus, ischemic colitis and/or segmental Crohn’s disease. Laparoscopic surgery has become the preferred approach for colorectal resections. Numerous advantages when compared with conventional surgery have been demonstrated such as less postoperative ileus, pain, wound infections, shorter length of hospital stay, and improved cosmesis. In addition, long-term oncologic outcomes are not jeopardized by the minimally invasive approach. An adequate surgical technique is critical to achieve good postoperative outcomes.
