War in Afghanistan came to the end for Russia more than twenty years ago was the subject of numerous publications in mass – media and in professional literature. However even nowadays it is doubtful that researchers know all the details of the contradictory history of that conflict, which became the most large and bloody conflict after the World War II. In the research on the basis of accessible literature and different types of sources (first of all – oral) the attempt was made to go through «human dimension» of the war in Afghanistan 1979 – 1989, to show it in the light of the prism of perception of those who in Russia and CIS members «the Afghans» are called.
