As a sequel to a previous work,1 Jansky and deHirsh present in Preventing Reading Failure the results of a study of 347 New York City school children who were examined prior to entering kindergarten and at the end of the second grade in that city9s public school system to ascertain the feasibility of predicting, by a group of tests, who was likely to fail to learn to read during the intervening three years despite a traditional education.
