Retrospective biochemical and immunological studies in long-term survival of TAH calaves

1994
Abstract The effects of an antihypertensive treatment in calves with a total artificial heart (TAH) was investigated in this study. Several biochemical and immunological parameters were monitored in two groups of calves following the implication of TAH. One group of TAH calves received antihypertensive treatment from the 60th day of survival until the end of the experiment. No antihypertensive drugs were used in animals of the control group. The liver tissue had partially restored its functional abilities in the group of treated calves. The increase in IgG levels observed in the control group was also completely prevented by the treatment
