Some aspects of the glucose metabolism of Fasciola hepatica

1971
Abstract 1. 1. The carbon dioxide produced by Fasciola hepatica from glucose is derived principally from those decarboxylation reactions leading to the production of acetic and propionic acids, rather than from tricarboxylic-acid cycle or pentose cycle decarboxylations. 2. 2. The role of the tricarboxylic-acid cycle in the oxidative metabolism of glucose is minimal, as is a probable pentose cycle. 3. 3. Insulin, epinephrine, ACTH, and hydrocortisone had no effect on the in vitro metabolism of glucose by F. hepatica . 4. 4. It was confirmed that seroton in increased glycolysis and glycogenolysis.
