The Depth of Olfactory Groove Analysis With Nasofrontal Angle Based on Keros Classification

2011
Radiographic imaging of computed tomography (CT) scan before performing FESS is mandatory to understand sinonasal anatomy and its adjacent structures. Keros classification had been describing the depth of olfactory groove which type-3 is most vulnerable to CSF leak and intracranial penetration. Assuming that nasofrontal angle and the depth of olfactory groove came from the same facial projection during embryonal life will be finding out in this study. Can external nasal measurement i.e. nasofrontal angle be a new parameter to predict internal nasal measurement i.e. the depth of olfactory groove? A study had been conducted for 120 subjects. We obtained the descriptions of the depth of olfactory groove each side which is Keros type 2, type 3, type 1 consecutively at left side and Keros type 2, type 1, type 3 consecutively at the right side. The left side olfactory groove deeper than the right side. Mean of nasofrontal angle is 134, 2o. There was no significant correlation between nasofrontal angle and the depth of olfactory groove so nasofrontal angle can not be a parameter to predict the depth of olfactory groove Keywords: Keros classification, olfactory groove, nasofrontal angle
