2020
The aim of the study is to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of the drug Karasooda sathu parpam (internal) in Kalladaippu. The symptoms of renal calculi nearly correlate with the Kalladaippu which is described in Siddha literature Yugi vaithiya sindhamani. The literature evidence of both siddha and modern literatures were reviewed. The reviews and recent studies on the individual drug of Karasooda sathu parpam were collected. The biochemical (qualitative) analysis was done at the bio chemistry lab of National Institute of Siddha. Physicochemical (quantitative) analysis and HPTLC were done at Nobel Research Centre, Chennai. Clinical study revealed the therapeutic efficacy of the study drug which was read from USG Abdomen reports. Based on USG Abdomen results 18 cases (60%) showed good improvement and 10 cases (33.33%) cases showed Moderate improvement, 2 cases (6.67%) Showed poor prognosis. Among 30 cases 21 cases (70%) had clinically good improvement (symptoms completely relieved) after treated with trial drug, 5 cases (16.6%) had moderate improvement (symptoms reduced) and 4 (13.4%) cases were poor improvement (symptoms not reduced). No adverse reaction was observed during treatment period. There were no recurrences of renal stone during the follow up period of two months. Statistical analysis showed significant difference between before and after treatment in the kidney stone size (p<0.05) and symptoms (p<0.05). The ingredients of Karasooda sathu parpam also had Diuretic, Lithotriptic action which give as per literature review the additional support to the trial drug. Because of the encouraging clinical outcome, the study may be further carried out with the same drug in large number of cases in future.
