Large Scale Synthesis of Nitrogen Doped TiO2 Nanoparticles by Reactive Plasma

2012
Abstract Nitrogen doped TiO 2 nanoparticles have been prepared in large scale by using a simple direct reactive plasma route in air. The N-doped TiO 2 nanoparticles are 10 to 100 nm in size and spherical in shape. The structure of the N-doped TiO 2 nanoparticles presents mainly in forms of anatase and rutile. Most nanoparticles show a disordered surface layer, which is approximately 5 nm in thickness. The atomic concentration of the nitrogen doped in the samples reaches 2.11%, which is higher than that in micrometer sized TiO 2 . Our photo-degradation results show that the N-doped TiO 2 nanoparticles can be used as photo-catalysts in the visible lights region.
