Ferimentos penetrantes de crânio por agentes mecânicos com exclusão de projéteis de arma de fogo

Six cases of penetrating lesions of the skull and brain due to stab wounds are presented; three of the cases were in the fronto-orbital region, one temporal, one occipital, and another one penetrated the infra-orbital region up to the vertex. The kind of lesion and possible sequelae were determined by the entrance point, traject and deepness of the wound, velocity of impact and kind of perforating instrument. Early recognition, adequate surgical debridement and judicious antibiotic therapy are essencial to define the ultimate prognosis.
