Optical Absorption in the Near Ultraviolet Region Band Structure and Phase Change of BaTiO3

The optical absorption behavior of BaTiO3 at the para-ferroelectric phase change and the anisotropies, in the vicinity of the interband absorption edge for pure monodomaine crystals are investigated from experimental measurements and tight-binding computations. The characteristic features are connected with the energy band structures and with the interband transition moments.
