The Vitamin B Complex and its constituents in functional digestive disturbances
1940
1.
A high percentage of patients with functional digestive disturbances are improved by the administration of a Vitamin B complex concentrate in large doses. 2. That these patients are deficient in the Vitamin B complex is suggested not only by the results of therapy, but, also by the demonstration of an abnormlly low excretion of one of the B complex constituents (thiamin).
3.
Priliminary tests indicate that effectiveness of the whole complex is not due to Vitamin B1 (thiamin) or to Vitamin B2 (riboflavin).
4.
Part of the effectiveness is due to the action of the nicotinic acid; however, the therapeutic use of pure nicotinic acid is not suggested for reasons given.
