Homoleptic Oxygen-coordinative Binuclear Magnesium Complex [Mg2(µ-OH2)2(H2O)4(OPCy3)4]Cl4

2007
The X -my diffraction study of the crystals deposited horn the solution obtained by the reaction of magnesium dichloride with tricyclohexylphosphine oxide in ethanol allowed the formulation of the product as [Mg2 (µ-OH2)2(H2O)4 (OPCy3)4]Cl4(Cy=cyclohexyl). Its structure is built of a homoleptic oxygen-coordinative binuclear magnesium cation complex and four chloride anions. Two pairs of chloride anions participate in intermolecular Cl…O-H bonds, forming two high-distorted cubanes which share a Mg2O4(µ-O)2 core. Each magnesium atom has a coordination octahedron formed by two µ-OH2, two OH2 and two OPCy3. The average Mg-O(PCy3), Mg-O(OH2) and Mg-µ-O(OH)bond lengths are 1.968(6), 2.052(7) and 2.286(6)A, respectively.
