USING MICRO-SIMULATION MODELLING TO APPRAISE A MAJOR TRANSPORT SCHEME

2003
In 2002, Walsall Metropolitan Borough Council applied to the Department of Transport for funding for the Walsall Town Centre Transport Package (TCTP). The key objectives for the TCTP were economic efficiency, accessibility, safety and regeneration. The proposals included improvements to the ring road and radial road approaches and improvements to the town centre (bus gates, bus priority, improved walking and cycling). The micro-simulation model VISSIM was used to assess the performance of the existing network and to test the potential impact of the proposed scheme. It was estimated that the proposed scheme would cover the scheme cost within four years of operation.
