Phase analysis of long-term signals by determining the protophase and phase of the signal

In this paper, we investigated two methods for determining instantaneous phases using long-term recordings of the human cardiovascular system — the Hilbert transform (what we call the protophase) and the nonlinear protophase transform. The latter method allowed us to make the phase more linear, however, it did not significantly affect the coherence coefficient between the studied signals.
