Preoperative Imaging Prior to Breast Reconstruction
2016
Clinical and laboratory monitoring of patients with breast cancer history is relatively well documented. However, breast reconstruction can make the detection of a possible local recurrence by clinical examination alone more difficult. In addition, new therapeutic approaches for breast reconstruction have been developed in plastic surgery, such as: skin or nipple sparing mastectomy and fat grafting as an adjuvant to conservative treatment. The requirement of pre-and postoperative imaging studies depends on many parameters such as age of the patient, the risk of local recurrence, the type of breast reconstruction. The authors will indicate some elements that can guide this requirement.
