Analysis and design of the bounded wave transmission line electromagnetic pulse simulator

2011
The constitution, primary technique parameters and the transmission line structure of the EMP simulator are introduced in this paper. The transmission and spatial distribution of the electric-field were simulated numerically by Finite Difference-Time Domain method (FDTD). The double-exponential function is used as exciting source and the spatial electric-field distribution is obtained. The effect of the terminal impedance matching impedance on the electric-field distribution is also presented. The electric-field integral along the center line of the simulator is implemented to study the radiation efficiency of the transmission line and the phase spatial distribution of the frequency-domain components of the pulse sign. The simulated and measured results show that the transmission line electromagnetic pulse simulator has symmetrical electric-field distribution, high radiation efficiency and uniform phase spatial distribution of frequency-domain spectral components. The measured results agree well with the simulated ones.
