Effect of contraceptive drugs on the guinea pig teat

1970
The effect of the oral contraceptives Noracyclin 22 Anovlar 21 Eugynon Provera and progesterone on longitudinal growth width (acanthosis) pigmentation and sebaceous glands of guinea pig teats were recorded. Treatment for 21 days consisted of 1/4 or 1/40 of a tablet orally; controls received .05 mcg hormoestrol (pp-dioxydiphenylhexane) and another untreated control group was included. All drugs elongated guinea pig teats measured by silhouette and caused spreading (acanthosis). All of those containing estrogen induced hyperpigmentation of the aureolae hormoestrol being the most potent. Hypertrophy of sebaceous glands developed after hormoestrol Noracyclin Eugynon in 1/40 tablet dose only Provera and progesterone but not Eugynon 1/4 tablet or Anovlar in either dose. The results on pigmentation were deemed clinically interesting with repsect to cholasma.
