Concentration of microalgae culture by a process of osmotic medium elimination using glycerol solutions

2014
Concentration of microalgae culture by a process of osmotic medium elimination using glycerol solutions. # The present invention involves concentrating microalgae culture by an economic process and low energy can reuse the residual glycerol synthesis biodiesel. # The glycerol solution is the osmotic solution which is contacted with the microalgae culture through a semipermeable membrane. The osmotic pressure difference between the crop and the glycerol solution causes water to be transferred to glycerol, thus achieving, without addition of chemicals or additional concentration culture energy expenditure. # This procedure allows downstream processing cultivation microalgae lower volumes handled, with subsequent cuts in spending on equipment, supplies and energy # alternatives:. centrifugation, flocculation, osmosis seawater.
