A Spin Glass Based Framework to Reconstruct Brain Fiber Bundles from Images of the Water Diffusion Process

2002
Weproposeaframeworkforthereconstructionofbrainfiberbundlegeometryfromimagesof the water diffusion process obtained by nuclear magnetic resonance. The optimal geometry corresponds to the lowest energy configuration of a spin glass, where each spin represents a piece of bundle. The glass energy embeds two kinds of potentials. First, images of the water diffusion process are used to build a non stationary external magnetic field that tends to orient the spins in the directions of high water mobility. Second, the spin interact in order to create low curvature bundles. Simulated annealing is used to get low energy configurations.
