Nonlinear Dynamics of Axially Accelerating String

The paper investigates the nonlinear dynamic characteristics of an axially accelerating string. The partial differential equation of motion is discretized by applying the Galerkin method. The amplitude of velocity and frequency of fluctuation is considered as control parameters. Numerical analysis is carried out applying fourth-order Runge–Kutta algorithm. The time histories, phase diagrams, and power spectra are presented to analyze the influence of control parameters on the nonlinear dynamic behavior of the system. Periodic, quasiperiodic, and chaotic responses are observed in the system.
