Stabilization of the flute instability of a rotating plasma by an auxiliary discharge near the wall

It is shown that one possible way to achieve stabilization in practice is to surround the plasma with a liner consisting of a chain of azimuthally symmetric, short discharge cells. The apparatus is filled as a result of the diffusion of particles from the outer layer. The gas pressure is chosen such that the condition delta n/delta r 70 is satisfied for the plasma as a whole.
