Correlation and Comparison of Synthetic and Field Seismic Data at Comertown Field, Sheridan County, Montana: ABSTRACT

1986
Comparison of multifold common-depth-point reflection seismic data with vertical incidence one-dimensional and two-dimensional synthetic seismic models demonstrates correlation of the stacked field seismic traces with the presence or absence of reservoir-quality carbonate rocks in the Ordovician Red River Formation. The seismic character map corresponds closely to hydrocarbon production at Comertown field. The strength of this interpretation is in the union of information and constraints provided from subsurface well control and surface seismic profiles. Definition of this hydrocarbon production provides an analogy to establish leads and prospects for exploration and to predict qualitative reservoir conditions for exploitation.
