BER performance of a new space-time diversity scheme for encoded DS-CDMA

2004
In this paper, we present the encoded bit-error-rate (BRR) performance of a new space-time transmit diversity scheme for cellular CDMA systems. The space-time transmit diversity for cellular CDMA systems is implemented with a modified space-time spreading (MSTS) code that exploits the spatial and temporal diversities in a multiple transmit and receive antenna channels (also known as a MIMO system) [Jiann-An Tsai et al. (2002)][Jiann-An Tsa et al. (2003)]. The BER performance of the MSTS transmit diversity is examined for an encoded CDMA system in a time-varying Rayleigh channel. The encoded BER results show the MSTS method significantly outperforms the baseline (no diversity) system. Furthermore, it is shown that the MSTS method can provide an additional temporal diversity gain over STS (space-time spreading) code system in both slow and high mobility radio environments.
