Groundwater Induced Fluorosis and Rickets Health Hazards at Melaseithalai, Tuticorin District of Tamilnadu

The water samples collected from open and borewells in and around Melaseithalai village were analyzed to find out physical and Chemical Parameters. The fluoride content of ground water ranges from 1.4 to 5.2 ppm suggests domestically not suitable. Fluorite mineral bearing pink granite, fluorine bearing minerals like apatite, chondrodite, biotite, hornblende and secondary chlorite of composite gneisses and charnockites and native black soil are the main causes for fluoride rich hydrogeochemical environment. Fluorosis and rickets are identified among the people residing in and around melaseithalai, the alternative drinking water source has been recommended.
