High gain high-voltage z-source converter for offshore wind energy systems

2014
In this paper, a new application of impedance source converter (Z-source converter) has been presented. Proposed application uses Z-source converter (ZSC) for connecting offshore wind farm to HVDC link. All the common pulse width-modulation (PWM) method can be applied to switch and control the Z-source converter. This converter by using additional elements and controlling the shoot-through duty cycle, can produce desired and extended output voltage. Three methods of control of the Z-source inverter are used. The proposed configuration and methods of control have been simulated by Matlab. The control methods and their voltage gains are studied and compared. As a result, proposed face reduced filter size, improved power factor, increased reliability and reduced bulk transformer. Reduced bulk transformer with Z_source high gain is mentioned. Simulation results will be presented to demonstrate these new advantages.
