Detrimental effects of hyperglycemia and perioperative hyperglycemia control
2008
Many studies have dernostrated that hyperglycemia is associated with adverse outcomes in surgical and critically ill diabetic patients. Most studies suggest that aggressive glycemic control may reduce morbidity and mortality. However, intensified glucose control is also associated with an increased risk of hypoglycemia. Although most bypoglycemic events are mild without significant clinical consequences, there axe still worries about this problem in clinical scenarios. This review intuoduces the deleterious effects of hyperglycemia to the body and provides some recent studies in perioperative hyperglycemia control.
