Background: Each year, in the United States, approximately 3500 infants die from sudden unexpected infant deaths. The leading causes of SUIDs include: SIDS; unknown cause and accidental suffocation and strangulation in bed due to unsafe sleep practices. The American Academy of Pediatrics stresses that all levels of nurseries and health providers should endorse and model the safe sleep practices (SSP).
