Acute biliary pancreatitis

2007
Abstract Acute biliary pancreatitis is the most serious complication of gallstones. In most cases, diagnosis is clinically and biologically made. CTscan is usefull for differencial diagnosis. There is no evidence for antibiotic prophylaxis to prevent necrosis infection. ERCP and sphincterotomy should be performed in case of cholangitis and biliary obstruction. Elective cholecystectomy is indicated after resolution of complications. These complications must be treated with endoscopy or radiology, and surgery in specific cases.
