Phylogenetic analysis of classical swine fever virus genomes recovered from slaughtered pigs

2013
In this study, a total no. of 1120 slaughtered pigs were examined for the presence of CSF suggestive pathological lesions and tissues from suspected cases were collected. CSF viruses obtained from affected pigs from an abattoir in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh were genetically characterized for partial E2/NS2 region and compared with CSFV isolates reported from India and other countries. The three slaughterhouse virus strains were found to be closely related, but are completely different from other CSF virus strains reported from India and other countries. The results of partial E2/NS2 characterization also strongly suggest that CSF outbreaks in swine populations of Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh during the period of study were attributed to more closely related CSFV strains.
