Physical education during self-isolation: maintaining the ‘E’ in PE

2020
The spread of COVID-19 has resulted in thousands of Australian school students’ self-isolating in their homes. Self-isolation has made normal routines to keep moving a challenge for many young people. This has resulted in young people turning to online videos and resources for ideas to keep active at home. A popular physical education (PE) recent example is personal trainer Joe Wicks who has had over 15 million views within the first week of his ‘P.E with Joe’ It has ignited online debate between physical education as physical training of the body, with comments like "I don’t need an education degree to be able to deliver that", and those seeking to continue education in, through and about movement with the aim of providing young people with a movement toolkit enabling them to be increasingly confident as independent self-regulated activity seekers.
