2020
Introduction: Systemic arterial hypertension is a multifactorial chronic-degenerative disease with a high mortality rate. It is considered one of the most serious public health problems in Brazil and in the world. Inadequate lifestyles and non-adherence to medication have contributed to increase blood pressure levels, increasing individual health’s complication, risk of hospitalization and death. Objective: Knowing the lifestyle relationships, as well as the effects of medication and non-medication adherence in hypertensive individuals. Methods: This is a literature review. The search was performed in databases as “US National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health”, “Scientific Electronic Library Online” and “Virtual Health Library”, using the descriptors Hypertension, Medication adherence and Lifestyle. The search involved articles from 2009 to 2019. Results: 31 articles were included and discussed on topics such as Systemic arterial hypertension, Life style of individuals with systemic arterial hypertension, and Systemic arterial hypertension and medication adherence. Conclusion: The findings reinforce the need for health professionals to direct actions that permeate all stages of the health-disease process: early identification of elevated blood pressure, medication adherence and non-medication treatment to control blood pressure levels, in addition to provide the individual's development of awareness of their role in the whole process of prevention and treatment of the disease.
