2016
This study aims to provide basic data for practice and policy solutions to prevent adolescents’ school violence by examining the influence of parental conflict and the father’s parenting behavior on adolescents’ violence acceptability and perpetration of school violence. Adolescents living inChoongnam province, Gyeonggi province, and Seoul attending the 1st to 3rd grades in middle school were surveyed. Six hundred surveys were distributed in total and 495 replies were used in the final analysis. The collected data were analyzed using the SPSS 23.0 program for frequency, percentage, factor analysis, Cronbach’s α, and product moment correlation coefficient. Path analysis was conducted using the AMOS 23.0 program. The results are summarized as follows. First, the frequency and intensity of parental conflicts had a direct influence on the father’s behavior. Second, it turned out that the stronger the intensity of parental conflict, the higher the child’s violence acceptability. Third, the father’s behavior influenced the adolescent’s violence acceptability and perpetration of school violence. Violence acceptability tends to get higher when the father``s level of supervision is low and abuse increases. Fourth, the adolescent’s violence acceptability influences the perpetration of school violence. Based on these results, practice and policy suggestions were made.
