Evaluation Method of Cavitation Erosion with CFD

We simulated inner fluid field of cavitation jet apparatus with CFD(Computational Fluid Dynamics) software,setting up hypothesis of bubbles collapse and use cavitation number(σ)to evaluate location and extent of cavitation erosion,and combined σ value with experiment result to get σ range where cavitation erosion takes place.The result shows: for petroleum based hydraulic oil(ISO VG 32),cavitation erosion takes place when σ=1~6 and cavitation erosion is most serious at σ=2.5;for tap water,cavitation erosion takes place when σ=0.5~3 and cavitation erosion is most serious at σ=1.5.
