EVALUATION OF WARM MIX ASPHALT IN WALLA WALLA, WASHINGTON

This report presents the results of testing done by the National Center for Asphalt Technology (NCAT) comparing a warm-mix asphalt (WMA) with a conventional hot-mix asphalt (HMA). The WMA is referred to by the trade name AquaBlack™. The field test was conducted in Walla Walla, Washington using a new section of US-12 in April of 2010. NCAT evaluated and compared both mixes using a variety of factors including: production, tensile strength, gradation, moisture susceptibility, permanent deformation, stiffness, fatigue, and compactability.
