Scrutinizing digital loop carrier energy (telecommunications power supply)

1988
The authors consider what happens to the wattage which a telecommunications power supply pumps through the constant voltage nodes that separate it from the powered system. It is claimed that circuit designers and system architects, if they gave some attention to energy utilization, could provide the same telecommunications functions at less than half the energy and bring about a 25% decrease in size and cost of the power processing, battery reserve, emergency carryover and attendant air-conditioning systems. It is further claimed that the saving in energy goes far beyond what could be saved if the power delivery system were made to be perfectly efficient. >
