2007
Purpose To explore the clinical features and histopathological character of intimal sarcoma. Methods To report one case of intimal sarcoma with review the literatures. Results A tumor in the lumen of the pulmonary artery liking a thrombus was found, which had elongation along the branch. Microscopically, tumor was composed of spindle cells, scattering some epithelioid cells and histiocytoid cells. Mitotic figures were 46/50HPF. Electronic microscopically, there were abundant of mitochondria, rough surfaced endoplasmic reticulum in the cytoplasm, but the ultrastructure was nonspecific. Immunohistochemically, tumor cells were reactive with vimentin,HMB-45 and α-SMA antibodies, meanwhile vascular markers (CD31, CD34, FⅧRAg) and S-100 were negative. Conclusions Intimal sarcoma is a malignant mesenchymal tumor arising in large arterial blood vessels of the systemic and pulmonary circulation. Recognizing the clinical and histopathological features of intimal sarcoma will help diagnose this tumor with poor prognosis.
