A 16/64 QAM Baseband SoC for mm-Wave Transceiver with Self-Healing for FD/FI IQ Mismatch, LO Leakage and CFO/SCO/PNC

2020
This paper presents a baseband (BB) transceiver for mm-Wave band with the proposed high-efficient built-in digital self-healing mechanism (SHM) that achieves a single stream of 10/15 Gbps throughput in 16/64 QAM single-carrier (SC) mode with a required BER of $3\times 10^{-7}$ within signal-to-noise-ratio (SNR) of 18.5/25.5 dB. The proposed digital SHM including four key submodules can effectively combat the impairment analog components and circuits causing the poor performance of error vector magnitude (EVM) and SNR. The BB transceiver based on IEEE 802.11ay 60 GHz draft yields an energy efficiency of 0.155/0.151 nJ/b for 16/64 QAM in 28nm CMOS.
