Ageing road users: identifying research priorities

2014
The TAC on behalf of the Victorian road safety partners undertook a project to identify opportunities for research into ageing road users. The information will provide the Victorian road safety partners with an understanding of existing research, policy and programs aimed at road trauma of ageing road users. The components of the project included: analysis of current data on ageing road user trauma n by age group, gender and road user type; a literature review on existing ageing road user safety research; identification of emerging road safety issues for ageing road users; identification of research priorities for consideration by the Victorian partners. A significant consultation process was undertaken with a broad range of stakeholders from the road safety, academic, health, ageing, mobility and other relevant sectors. This paper describes the project, key findings and recommendations for the Victorian Road safety partners in terms of identifying research opportunities to inform programs and policies that aim to reduce road related trauma for an ageing population.
