Prediction lineaire de parametres optiques de l'ecriture

Parameters are measured in the optical Fourier spectra of a series of handwritten pages. The temporal fluctuations of handwriting constitute a stochastic process that can be determined by using autoregressive (AR) models for a linear prediction. More than 70% of the fluctuations of the slope of the drawing are predicted by AR models on a set of several hundred lines, with an accuracy better than 20%. Most of the unpredictable lines are explained by physical reasons such as the lack of ink or the position of the writer. An optical set-up that can achieve a real time linear prediction is also presented.
