Childhood Blood Cadmium Levels and Its Relevant Influential Factors

2010
Objective To analyze the correlated factors affecting childhood cadmium induced injury through detecting the blood cadmium levels. Methods 60 healthy children from the clinic of child health care were randomly chosen for detecting blood cadmium levels with flameless graphite AAS and simultaneously with questionnaire survey. Results were processed with multiple regression analysis. Results Results showed that the mean blood cadmium level was(2.50±1.02)μg/L for 60 children. The mean blood cadmium level was the highest in the group of≥three years old and that of boys was higher than that of girls. With the multiple stepwise regression analysis, results showed that the blood cadmium levels in childhood were correlated with many factors, such as the amount of cigarettes their parents smoked, the habit of children's finger sucking, allotriophagy, amount of calcium and vegetable daily intake and so on.Conclusions By understanding the correlated factors affecting the childhood blood cadmium levels,it is possible to provide criteria for preventing early childhood cadmium induced injury in clinical practice. It should be concerned about by all children health care workers.
