2-Dimensional magnetic materials for spintronics technology
2020
Spin control without a magnetic field is one of the key challenges being faced in the development of spintronic devices. The discovery of high critical temperature (Tc) 2-dimensional (2D) magnetic materials with intrinsic magnetic properties have renewed interest in this exciting field. In this chapter, we have explored ferromagnetic, antiferromagnetic and ferrimagnetic order in organic and inorganic monolayers, bi-layer and multilayers, nanosheets, honeycomb, nanoplates and nanoflakes for the applications of spintronics. Theoretical, computational and experimental results regarding net spin coupling interactions have been incorporated for intrinsic, doped, hetero-structures, hybrid-structures and composites of 2D systems. This chapter provides a critical understanding of the challenges and opportunities of 2D nanosheets in exploring their applications in the field of spintronics.
