A turbulent-energy based mesh refinement procedure for Large Eddy Simulation

Large Eddy Simulation (LES) relies on four strongly coupled basic ingredients, the Sub-Grid Scale (SGS) closure, the time and space discretization methods, the boundary conditions and the mesh. The objective of this paper is to test a practical strategy to optimize LES grids according to the level of unresolved SGS energy. This approach was first discussed by Pope [1] and Klein [2].
