Sri Racha spearheads power privatization in Thailand
1997
Ahmedabad Electricity Company (AEC) is a privately owned power utility which has to purchase power from the Gujarat State Electricity Board (GEB) at a cost about 50 per cent higher than its marginal cost. Even with power purchases, however, peak demand often cannot be met. Realising the potential for improving load management and energy efficiency, the Indian utility has begun a pilot programme on demand side management to improve the situation.
