IR-Spectroscopy Investigation of the Mechanism for Grafting Styrene and Vinyl Acetate to Chlorinated Polyvinyl Chloride,
1972
Abstract : When polyvinyl chloride is subjected to relatively high doses of irradiation one observes intermolecular interaction with splitting off of HCl (cross-linking of the polymer) and also the process of intramolecular splitting of HCl with the formation of a C=C-bond. Because the chlorinated PVC resin used is the product of chlorination of PVC, the authors investigated infrared spectroscopy as a means to clarify the mechanism by which styrene and vinyl acetate are grafted to it under relatively small doses of irradiation.
